Karen Jean Geerdes was born February 19, 1957 to parents Gordon and Stella (deNeui) Geerdes in Steamboat Rock. She attended school and graduated from Steamboat Rock High School in the Class of 1975.

A few years later she began a family of her own, blessed with two boys, Brett and Corey. Jean worked for Alliant Energy for 42 and a half years working within their offices before being promoted to substation material manager. She later returned to school and received her Associates of Arts degree which she was very proud of and was a major accomplishment in her life.

On October 13, 2000, Jean was united in marriage to the love of her life Timothy Thompson in Steamboat Rock on the porch of her parents’ home. Together they called Conrad home.

Jean was a devoted child of God, a member of Journey Church, and could be considered an honorary member of the Iowa Veteran’s Home Chapel as she would attend at both services. She loved to volunteer by helping push the veteran’s wheelchairs to the chapel so they could actively participate in a Sunday church service.

She loved to care for “her tribe,” especially her grandchildren, tend to her many flower gardens, cooking and baking for family events and holidays, and leading a prayer group at work. She was a hard worker and did not have a mean bone in her body. She always would go out of the way to help someone in need and was never negative about anything. She instilled to her kids an attitude of humility and a willingness to serve others. She will be remembered and missed by many.

Jean is survived by her husband of 20 years Tim Thompson; her sons Brett (Tiffany) Stupp and Corey (Ashlee) Stupp; her stepson, Matt (Erin) Thompson; her grandchildren, Alexander, Haley, Zander, and Emma Stupp; and her step-grandchildren Natalie, Aiden, and Aubrey Thompson; her four siblings Jim, Gail, Cindy, and Joey; along with numerous extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Gordon and Stella Geerdes.
