Knutsen reflects on World Scouts Jamboree

Having been involved in Scouts USA (formerly Boy Scouts of America) since his childhood, local resident and Grundy County Memorial Hospital Physicians Assistant Mike Knutsen knew when he got the chance to visit the World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia this summer, he couldn’t pass up this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
 
The World Scout Jamboree, which is held every four years in a different country, brings Scouts from all over the globe together for a two-week long celebration of the Scouting values.
 
This year’s jamboree was held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia, and is only the second time in history that the jamboree has been held in the U.S., with the only other time being in Idaho in 1967. More than 50,000 people from 170 different countries came together for the Jamboree, and for the two week duration of the event, the camp was the largest “city” in West Virginia.
 
Knutsen was one of around 10,000 staff members working at the camp. With his background in the medical field, Knutsen was asked to work in one of the several medical tents, where he and his team provided medical care to Jamboree attendees.
