Lawrence Kahler

Lawrence Noble Kahler, 92 of Garwin, Iowa passed away Monday, March 29, 2021 at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad. Funeral services were 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 6 at the Garwin Christian Church in Garwin. Visitation was 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services at the church. Lawernce entered the world on January 21, 1929 at the family home east of Garwin. He is the son of Noble Kahler and Rose (Goette) Kahler.

During his early childhood, Lawrence moved with his family to various farms in Tama County eventually landing back in Garwin for the rest of his life. Lawrence attended country schools near Elberon and town school in Garwin; graduating in the class of 1947. Lawrence's youth was spent like most boys his age helping out, playing with the neighbor boys, especially those who lived in little Denmark. There are too many stories to tell here but suffice it to say he was all boy with all that brings.

Following High School graduation he enlisted in the Army. Following his service he came back to Garwin where he worked at Garwin Lumber Company. During this time he met and fell in love with Frances Watts a teacher at the local country schools.

Lawrence and Frances were married at the Garwin Evangelical United Brethren Church on June 13, 1954. The couple made their home in Garwin where by now Lawrence had joined his Father in the family gas station and trucking business. To the happy couple were born three children Gerry, Terry and Lea Anne. Extending the family into the coming generations are five grandchildren, Greg,(Jenn) Kahler of North Liberty, Matthew Kahler of Arnold Missouri, Andrew(Olivia) Kahler of Wellman, Iowa, Paul Kahler and Amy Kahler both of Marion; two great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Jo Kahler and Hudson Noble Kahler both of Wellman.

In the years that followed Lawrence worked at a variety of jobs including as a custodian at the Garwin Community Schools, Cooper Mfg. in Marshalltown. In 1972 Lawrence and Frances started a business moving mobile homes. This work took them all across the country. In April of 1976 Lawrence was involved in a mobile home accident (one fell on him as he was working underneath of it) ending the business.

Following his healing Lawrence went to work as a custodian at the community college in Marshalltown where he worked until he took early retirement in 1992.

Lawrence has always worked and so it would be during retirement, where he worked part time as a gardener on the Little Goose Ranch in Big Horn Wyoming, he also preformed maintenance work at the Garwin Courts where he and Frances made their home.

Preceding Lawrence into forever are his beloved Frances, sister Elnora, brothers-in-law Dennis Mason, Vernon Wilhite, James Daily, Bill Curless, and Paul Stark, Sisters-in-law Marian Stark, Fern Curless, Janet Watts, Linda Watts.

Here to celebrate Lawrence's live are Gerry (Jodi) Kahler of Conrad, Terry (Linda) Kahler of Marion, Lea Anne Kahler of Sheridan Wyoming, Virginia (Larry) Eckhart of Gladbrook, sisters-in-law Carol Daily, Vivian Morfit, brothers in law Fred Watts (Betty) Willie Morfit, George Watts (Marilyn) and many nieces and nephews.
