Library brings Register archives to life online

    GRUNDY CENTER — Since the beginning of newspapers, those wishing to research back issues have relied on tried and true methods of searching through old newspapers and microfilm. Now, thanks to a Kling Memorial Library project funded by the Sara Lee Yoder Trust, those looking to do research in The Grundy Register have a new tool that will cut their research time exponentially.
    Last week the Kling Memorial Library unveiled its digital archives for The Grundy Register and its predecessor papers dating from the 1860s through 2008. Library Director Molly Mauer said the archives are a product of what she saw as a need.
    “It stems from a service that I didn’t feel we were providing as fully as we could,” she said. “People would come in and they would say ‘I know you have microfilm and I’m looking for this article. My grandpa’s farm burned and I think it was 1939 or 38,’ and I thought ‘OK …’”
