Local wrestlers reach podium at individual state meet

CLARKSVILLE – Local wrestlers brought home the hardware from the individual state wrestling meet last week. All four local qualifiers worked their way to the podium to finish among the top eight in the state in Class 1A in their respective weight classes.
AGWSR senior Clay Meinders repeated as a third place medal winner, this year in the 220 lb. weight class. Meinders opened his final state tournament with two wins, pinning Charles Robertson of Collins-Maxwell-Baxter and winning by 3-2 decision over Marcus Boldy of Panorama, before falling to top-ranked and undefeated Ryan Parmely of Maquoketa Valley 11-7 in the semifinal. He then pulled off a come from behind pin over tenth-ranked Jared Brinkman of Iowa City Regina to advance to the third place match, and in the final match of his high school career he prevailed in a 3-2 decision over sixth-ranked Logan Reddick of Wilton to claim the third place spot on the podium.
