GRUNDY CENTER – For the past few weeks, workers have been out at the Herbert Quick School House completing different stages of the long-planned restoration project.
The project, which started about two years ago and is being headed by the Grundy Center Historical Society and the local chapter A.R. P.E.O., is aimed at preserving and restoring the old school house by making necessary repairs to keep the house in good condition.
“The whole concept of this project was to preserve an important part of history, and Herbert Quick – who went to school here – was one of the most famous Iowans,” said Historical Society member Mary Doak. “It’s long been a favorite part of Grundy Center and we want to keep that history preserved and use the school house as a centerpiece for that.”
