Long time GC food service director set for retirement

GRUNDY CENTER — The winds of change are blowing in the Grundy Center Community School District. As the students say their goodbyes for the summer, they will be the final goodbyes to several teachers, their long-time high school principal and their superintendent.
It will also be a final goodbye to somebody every student and most faculty members know well, even if they do not know who she is. Food Service Director Barb Rose announced earlier this year that she would be retiring at the end of the school year.
Rose began her career at Grundy Center 29 years ago as a baker. Ten years later she was promoted to Food Service Director.
“When it started off it was convenient hours because I had three children,” she said. “Having the summers off and the same times off as my kids, I didn’t need a baby sitter.
“And then, as they got older, it was ‘I kind of like visiting with the kids’ and the hours are nice,” she said. “It just fit me.”
