From the Mayor

    Greetings Citizens of Grundy Center,
It’s hard to believe it’s the middle of June.  I would guess the majority of us are thrilled warmer weather has arrived and that winter is behind us!  The aquatic center is now open, later than usual due  to late dismissal of schools and our long winter, and Farmers Market has begun.  There is a lot happening with our City!  The new street lights project has started with the cooperation of the City of Grundy Center and Grundy Center Municipal Utilities.  What an enhancement to the downtown area it will be.  There are several business building projects beginning as well as some new homes.  This is a great progressive community!
City Hall and even some of our City Employees are hearing from some concerned citizens.  No one likes to receive a ticket or even a letter addressing a city code violation.  I would ask you to keep the saying, “Don’t shoot the messenger,” in mind.  These codes were implemented for a reason.  This past winter snow tickets were issued per the code, which states you can’t be parked in the street if we receive 2” of snow.  This past few weeks several letters were sent to citizens blowing their grass clippings into the road which also violates a code.  We sent letters rather than issuing citations to remind people of the code.  There are more and more pets in the community all the time as we are pet owners too.  It is a violation of city code to leave your pet waste on city property, including the parks or someone else’s property.  Please be kind and considerate to dispose of the waste properly.
Spring is a beautiful time of the year.  Grundy Center is a beautiful community and we all want to keep it looking that way.  I’m usually in the office at City Hall M-F 11:15 to 12:15.  If that doesn’t work for you, please call City Hall and we can schedule an appointment.
