Mervin Dean Andersen
Mervin Dean Andersen age 91, formerly of Dike, Iowa and Green Valley, Arizona passed away peacefully on November 29, 2021. Born in Dike on March 11, 1930 to Hans and Della (Koch) Andersen. Merv graduated from Dike High and attended Iowa State University before enlisting in the United States Air Force. In 1954 while serving he met and married Barbara Leah of Central Falls, Rhode Island. Mervin had a long career working for the US Dept. of Agriculture in addition to farming. He was active in the Dike United Methodist Church, Danish Brotherhood and American Legion. Barb and Merv enjoyed traveling including several trips to Europe and the British Isles in addition to beach time spent visiting relatives in Rhode Island. He enjoyed visiting with friends, singing, tending to his garden in Iowa and dirt in Arizona and was an avid crossword and jumble puzzler. He is survived by his children, Leah (Craig) Hansen, Clinton (James Olson) Andersen, Angie (Rusty) Russell and Kirsten (Steve) Ward. Two grandchildren Karina Hansen, Kyle (Theresa) Hansen, many grand-dogs and one grand-cat. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, two sisters Norma Meewes and Margie Multhauf. A memorial service will be held at the Dike United Methodist Church 10:00 April 30th followed by coffee. There will be a private interment at a later time. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to KSDS Assistance Dogs Inc. of Washington Kansas or to a charity of the donors choice.
