Methodist Church to celebrate 150th anniversary

GRUNDY CENTER — The Grundy Center United Methodist Church will celebrate its 150th anniversary Sunday with a service that combines old-fashioned worship with a modern service.
“What we want to do is have at least one opportunity to celebrate the heritage that has been given to us,” UMC Pastor Phil Dicks said. “It’s critically important that we know where we are today and to honor where we’ve come from.”
Dicks said the service will include music that came from the 150th, 100th and 50th anniversaries of the church as well as from its founding.
“We don’t even know what some of the tunes are but we do have the words, we’re going to put that together,” he said.
Following the service, many historical items will be placed on display in the fellowship hall, many of which have not been seen for many, many years. Among those items will be a board from 1812 with names carved in it that was discovered in the rafters when the church was recently updating its sound and video systems.
