An MLB All-Star ... at 10 years old

GRUNDY CENTER — Many kids dream of playing Major League Baseball. For a Grundy Center 10-year-old, that dream will come true sooner than he ever could have imagined ... at least for a night.
Brayden Sawyer is one of just 24 boys and girls nationwide to have qualified for the national finals of the Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run contest, which will be contested at Target Field in Minneapolis the day before baseball’s midsummer classic, the All-Star Game. He survived local, regional and team rounds of competition to become one of just three finalists in his boys’ age group and the competition’s first finalist from Iowa since 2011.
“When we started this thing, none of us knew what we were getting into,” Brayden’s mom Kristy said.
“We had Pitch, Hit and Run when I was younger and it was a big thing. Then I thought it died off.” his father Kevin said. “(Kristy) got that letter and I said ‘Let’s do it.’”
