New Hartford dedicates Meditation Gardens

NEW HARTFORD — More than five years after an F5 tornado devastated the cities of Parkersburg, New Hartford and surrounding areas, a new garden has been dedicated in their memory.
On Oct. 2, the City of New Hartford dedicated the New Hartford Meditation Garden located south of the Town Square Gazebo Garden.
“It’s for all the communities,” spokesperson Carol Chapman said. “(The tornado) started all the way to Aplington and went to Dunkerton — they all went through the same experience we did. And the devastation and the rebuilding, it’s just really hard to get enough gumption to start over again. And then you get the second disaster on top of that.”
