Pamela Jo Meester

Pamela Jo Meester, 74, of Aplington passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from cardiac arrest. 

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Oct. 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the Aplington Evangelical Presbyterian Church, with burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Meester was born the daughter of Harold Justin and Wava Bernice (Minor) Meester on Aug. 24, 1950, in Grundy Center. She received her education in Grundy Center and graduated from the Grundy Center High School. Pam Jo attended the nursing program at the Marshalltown Evangelical and Community School of Nursing in Marshalltown and received her degree in 1971. She worked at St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo for many years. After her retirement from nursing, she continued to work and had many other jobs. She was a janitor at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, where she also enjoyed helping with the youth group. She worked at a group home in Allison, was a volunteer Aplington Ambulance driver and loved practicing equine medicine for many horse owners in the area.

Pam Jo was an active member of the Aplington Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where she helped with the sound system. She was an avid bowler and belonged to bowling leagues in the area for many years. She loved to go square dancing and was a member of the Aplington Angels and the Haylofters and attended several national single square dance conventions. Some of her hobbies included being a first responder and storm spotter. She belonged to the Cedar Falls CB Emergency Club, where they often directed the traffic during parades and events. She enjoyed spending time on the farm and had an extensive vegetable and flower garden.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Patricia “Pat” Meester of Mt. Ayr; three nieces, Holly (Jeremiah) Howell of Mt. Ayr, Lacey (Cody) Reed of Winterset and Kelsey (Scott) Kinyon of Creston; and five great nieces and nephews, Brodie and Collin Howell, Rowdy and Isabella Reed, and Callie Kinyon. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Wava Meester; and one brother, Jay Meester.
