P.E meets technology at D-NH Junior High
NEW HARTFORD — Physical education met technology last week at Dike-New Hartford Junior High School, as a month-long unit reached its conclusion with the playing of student-created fitness videos.
P.E. Teacher Jann Miller came up with the idea of working with students’ new laptop computers to create videos that could be used during class.
“I started a fitness based curriculum this year, and one of the things I thought with them going 1-to-1 computers was how could we bring those things together,” she said.
Miller collaborated with Technology Teacher Laura Eiklenborg to come up with videos incorporating cardio, strength and flexibility components. Working in groups, students researched and filmed exercises during P.E. class and then edited the videos in computer application class, adding voiceovers and transitions.
