A-P/GC boys wrestling meets the criteria

ACKLEY – Aplington-Parkersburg/Grundy Center boys wrestling needed a tiebreaker for a 43-42 win over AGWSR in triangular action last Tuesday, Dec. 20 at AGWSR High School.

The Falcons won the dual via the forfeit tiebreaker, receiving two forfeits compared to AGWSR’s one forfeit victory. A-P/GC’s other dual on Tuesday was a 59-24 loss to Wapsie Valley, the eighth-ranked team in Class 1A. AGWSR is ranked 28th in 1A. The Cougars fell to Wapsie Valley, 59-18.

Clay Saak and Trent Cakerice won both of their matches on Tuesday. Cakerice earned a key victory before year’s end with a first-period pinfall victory against AGWSR’s Tate Miller, the seventh-ranked heavyweight in 1A according to IAwrestle.

Kaden Abbas and Aiden Heitland won both of their matches for the Cougars. Abbas claimed two pinfall victories at 145 pounds and Heitland grabbed a couple pins at 220 pounds.

AGWSR now has a 7-6 record in duals heading into 2023. The Cougars head to BCLUW High School on Thursday, Jan. 5 to resume action against Denver and South Hardin-BCLUW.

A-P/GC goes into the holiday break with a 5-7 dual record. The Falcons return to action on Jan. 5 at Waterloo Columbus.
