Rebels state tourney hopes dashed

HAMPTON – Belmond-Klemme found momentum early and managed to carry it throughout in their 57-52 substate win over Gladbrook-Reinbeck Monday. Despite a strong effort by Gladbrook-Reinbeck, the Mustang offense managed to knock down shots at will to answer to each Rebel challenge.
The Mustangs opened the game with a 10-0 run in the first quarter before Joe Smoldt connected on a short jumper to put Gladbrook-Reinbeck on the board. Later in the first, the Broncos were up 13-6 when back-to-back 3’s by Camden Kickbush and Luke Holman brought the game to within one at 13-12. Belmond-Klemme responded to make it 16-13 at the end of the period.
