School Board approves budget cuts

GRUNDY CENTER — The Grundy Center Community School District approved more than $877,000 in budget cuts during its regular meeting Wednesday night.
The District released the list of possible reductions Monday. The list, which is available on the School District Web site, includes a prioritized list of possible reductions that the School Board will discuss and act on either at Wednesday’s meeting or a future meeting.
Superintendent Jerry Schutz said the list of reductions with help from the Trego Ed training that he, Board Treasurer Chad Wagner and School Board President Bob Johanns learned about last fall.
The list of proposed reductions includes one full time equivalent (FTE) at the middle school, one FTE in science, .8 FTE in both K-12 music and art, .5 FTE in family consumer science and business and .25 FTE in technology integration. It also includes the already announced process of closing the Upper Elementary building, dropping transitional kindergarten and replacing a retired administrator with a half-time administrator.
