SH-BCLUW's Willett breaks Storm career pin record

Coby Willett didn't take much time to celebrate his new record on Saturday morning.

The South Hardin-BCLUW wrestler became the new career pins leader for the Storm after pinning Forest City's Kaleb Umbaugh in a first-round match at Saturday's Comet Invitational at North Polk High School.

Willett's 76th pin of his career passes the old record of 75, set by Tyler Lutes, who earlier this year finished his Wartburg wrestling career as a Division III national runner-up.

"It's kinda crazy," Willett said in a phone interview on Monday. "Everyone knows Tyler Lutes' name, so to be on top is just a cool feeling."

In the moments after setting the new record, however, Willett was more focused on trying to get through a tough 126-pound bracket.

"It was more business as usual," Willett said. "I had a tough bracket and had to move on past it. Excited for a brief moment, yeah, but more focused on my next match, to keep doing what I'm doing."
