Shari Harberts

Shari Harberts, 64, passed away at her winter home in Florida on February 6, 2025.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Sharon Lynn Lynch was born on May 22, 1960 at the Grundy Memorial Hospital to Ray and Lois (Baughman)Lynch with an impatient and excited brother Gene awaiting her arrival.

She was brought home to the family farm southwest of Grundy Center where she lived her entire life. She was nicknamed Shari for which she was forever known. While working at the local drive-in diner in High School she met the love of her life, Paul Harberts. Marrying as soon as she graduated, they formed a tight knit partnership that the whole community knew as one force being “Paul and Shari.”

The farms they grew and nurtured were only one part of Shari’s passions. She was extremely active in the United Methodist Church (Cornertsone), upholding a four-generation tradition. Her mom introduced her to the art of sewing and quilt making. She ran with those skills and built a reputation of excellence making projects that touched the entire community. Shari’s interest in creativity was unending. She was known from Iowa to Florida for producing beautiful stained glass creations and for teaching others to create their own. Her works hang in church windows, businesses and many friends’ and family homes. She was also an accomplished jewelry maker, glassmaker and combine driver.

Together Shari and Paul formed friendships spanning all over the country through experiences with their RV and travel. She was very grateful for those relationships.

Shari is survived by her husband, Paul Harberts, brother Gene Lynch (Susie Keck) of Newton, brother- in- law Allen Harberts (Judy), nephew Ryan Lynch (Melissa), niece Ann Lynch (Tanya), great nephew and niece George Mickelson Lynch and May Favorite Lynch and step-nieces and nephew, Lizzie Meyer, Dan Meyer and Allie Meyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Lois Lynch, sister Donna Lynch, grandparents Mervin and Anna (Haren) Baughman and Harry and Ella (Wiener) Lynch.
