Sharon Faye Abbas

Sharon Faye Abbas, age 73, of Aplington, Iowa was born the daughter of Elmer and Bertha (Ehmen) Henricks on December 24, 1948, in Eldora, Iowa. She received her education at the Aplington High School and graduated in 1967. She later went to further her education by attending the Pitze’s Beauty School in Waterloo, Iowa. She then practiced at a local salon before marriage. 

On October 1, 1969, Sharon was united in marriage with Ronald James Abbas at First Presbyterian Church in Aplington. The couple made their home in Austinville, where Sharon owned and worked at her own beauty salon. In November of 1974, Sharon and Ronald moved to a farm southwest of Aplington where they raised their three children. She worked at various other jobs over the years which included; Boyts Manufacturing in Iowa Falls, Iowa, in the kitchen at the Ackley School and Triple T Meats both in Ackley, Iowa. Later on Sharon attended the Massage Therapy school in Hampton, Iowa, where she then worked as a Massage Therapist at the Hospital in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Sharon and Ronald moved to Sioux Center, Iowa where she worked as a Massage Therapist, at the Casey’s Bakery and as a hostess at a restaurant. They then later moved back to the farm south of Aplington.

Sharon was a member of the Austinville Christian Reformed Church for many years. In her spare time, she liked to read the Bible, listen to and sing hymns, and accompany Ronald as he drove the charter bus on numerous trips, like Washington D.C and Branson, Missouri. She especially loved to bake and enjoyed her sweets and chips. Most of all, Sharon enjoyed spending time with the grandkids.  

Sharon passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Grand JiVante in Ackley, Iowa, due to Parkinson’s disease. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Gary Henricks and one sister-in-law, Bernita Henricks. 

Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Ronald Abbas of Aplington, Iowa; two sons, Shawn (Stacie) Abbas of Eureka, South Dakota and Chad (Jerrianne) Abbas of Hawarden, Iowa; one daughter, Jill (Brian) Burkle of Ankeny, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Austin, Kassandra, and Xavier Abbas, Nicholas, Benjamin, Josee, Matthew, Joshua, and Joseph Abbas, and Anna and Addison Burkle; three brothers, Craig Henricks of Littleton, Colorado, Kenneth Henricks (Michael Bacon) of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Norman (Cindy) Henricks of Ackley, Iowa; one sister, Norma (Bill) Dorn of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; and one sister-in-law, Debra Henricks of Dumont, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Austinville Christian Reformed Church in Austinville.  Rev. Frank Pott officiated the service.  Organist was 

Steph Abkes and she accompanied the congregation as they sang “Amazing Grace”.  Jacob Abbas sang “In The Garden” and “I Can Only Imagine”.  Special music, “Far Banks of Jordan” by Terry Smith was played.  Burial was held at Ackley Christian Reformed Church Cemetery in rural Ackley, with Nicholas Abbas, Benjamin Abbas, Matthew Abbas, Joshua Abbas, Joseph Abbas and Cory Koop serving as Casketbearers.  Honorary Casketbearers were Josee Abbas, Addison Burkle, Kassandra Abbas, Anna Burkle, Xavier Abbas and Austin Abbas.

Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Austinville Christian Reformed Church in Austinville.  Memorials may be directed to the family.  Redman Funeral & Cremation Services in Aplington was in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences may be left at www.redmanfuneral.com
