The show must go on: Community play students show appreciation to director in what may be last play
GRUNDY CENTER - This year’s community play, “For Better or Wurst,” kept the audience rolling with laughter throughout the two showings this weekend. Afterwards, students gave a special ‘thank you’ to director Steven Brunk for his dedication to the community play series, as Brunk celebrates what is possibly his last year directing the community play.
When the spring play was no longer offered by the school, Brunk and his family took it upon themselves to give students the opportunity to refine their acting skills and delight in another acting opportunity through a community play.
For four years, Brunk has orchestrated the entire production while his school-aged sons were also involved. His elder sons, Adam, Issac and Aaron, were all heavily involved in theater and music, and have assisted with the productions of the Fall Musical and aided band and chorus teachers for a decade of performances.
Jack Beck Brunk, Steven’s youngest son, is now a senior at GCHS - and is the last of Steven’s children to graduate from the school. After Jack graduates, Steven said he is unsure of whether or not he will be back next spring to organize the production.
