It’s been quite a school year for South Hardin-BCLUW’s Ian Showers. The junior, who moved to BCLUW from Clarke of Osceola last winter, qualified for the state meet in cross-country in his first season as a Comet, and he added state qualifier in wrestling for the Storm to his impressive resume with a second-place finish in the 113-pound weight class at the Class 2A District 1 meet in Parkersburg on Saturday afternoon.

“Ian has done a lot this year. He came off kind of a disappointing year last year,” SH-BCLUW co-head coach Stacy Simpson said. “This year, he’s come out and become a really good leader for us… He’s one of those kids that usually leaves everything on the mat.”

Showers (29-12) opened his day with a dominant 16-2 major decision win over Todd Raisch of Iowa Falls-Alden: he jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a first period takedown, and after allowing an escape, took Raisch down again and carried a 4-1 lead into the second period.
