Smoldt garners West Division Outstanding Player honor

Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s run to its first-ever state tournament berth was keyed by a talented group of seniors, yet the lone sophomore in the group copped the highest North Iowa Cedar League All-Conference honor.
Guard Joe Smoldt was named NICL West Outstanding Player on the all-conference team, which was announced last week.
Smoldt was one of four double-digit scorers for a Rebel team that entered the Class 1A state tournament undefeated and ranked No. 1 in most major polls. He averaged a conference-leading 17.7 points per game this year while dishing out 133 assists (third in the West Division) and collecting 73 steals (second in the division). He also shot 41 percent from behind the 3-point arc and 81 percent from the foul line.
