The defensive effort of both teams, and slowdown tactics on the part of the Falcon offense, kept the game close and the score low when Grundy Center and Aplington-Parkersburg met on the Spartan home court. In the end it was a consistent Spartan defense and some key buckets on offense as the clock ran down that gave them the edge and the non-conference win.
“The defensive pressure that was applied through the entire game really helped to create some key turnovers late in the fourth quarter,” Spartan head coach Matt Lindeman said.“Alyssa Mathews made some big baskets down the stretch and Jessica Ackerson made some key free throws at the end of the game to help the Spartans get their fourth win of the year,”
