Spartans, Cadets compete at Ballard Invitational
HUXLEY – The Ballard Golf & Country Club near Huxley was the site of the 33rd running of the Ballard Invitational last Monday night, dubbed as one of the largest cross country meets in the state. Iowa Falls-Alden/AGWSR competed in the Class A division with the largest of schools, while Grundy Center competed in Class D with the smallest.
The IF-A/AGWSR varsity girls’ team placed sixth, and the JV placed fourth. Bethany and Jessica Lippert both medaled with sixth and 11th place finishes for the varsity girls. Eri Siems ran to a 29th place finish, Taylor Risuis was 50th. Brittany Fisher went 47th, Desiree Folsom 48th, and Amanda Smith 55th. Paola Cordova saw her first competition this season after dealing with an injury, and paced the JV girls with her eighth place finish.
“The IFA-AGWSR girls really came out and performed well physically and mentally,” IF-A/AGWSR girls’ coach Jamie Maxwell said. “Ten personal records were set and we decreased our points on both JV and Varsity. We look to see our team spread decrease to under two minutes as we enter the middle of the season.”
