Spartans down AGWSR, fall in Marion Tourney semifinal

    GRUNDY CENTER — Grundy Center remained perfect in North Iowa Cedar League West play last Tuesday with a 3-0 victory over AGWSR.
    The Spartans also went 3-1 in the Marion Tournament Saturday, falling in two games to eventual tournament champion Marion in the semifinals.
    “We’re always happy with the conference wins, they kind of build us throughout the year and keep us going; the Marion Tournament was kind of inconsistent.”
    GC defeated AGWSR for the second time this season, 25-10, 25-16, 25-5. The Spartans were led by their service game which recorded 17 aces. Stephanie Faust had eight aces in the contest while Alyssa Mathews had six. Faust also led the Spartans with 13 kills, Mathews had 19 assists and Riley Sents recorded 25 digs.
