Spartans drops two in final week of regular season

GRUNDY CENTER – The Grundy Center boys dropped games to a couple of NICL-East teams, Columbus and Dike-New Hartford, in their final week of regular season play. The Spartans fell to the Sailors 70-39 on their home court Tuesday after coming up short in a closely played road game at Dike, 64-57 on Monday.
The 6-15 Spartans opened the postseason with a Class 1A first round game against Clarksville at Grundy Center on Monday, Feb. 17.
Columbus 70, Grundy Center 39
Columbus jumped out to an early lead and never looked back against the Spartans Tuesday night. The Sailors took a 21-8 first period lead and held a 49-18 advantage at the halfway mark on their way to a 41 point win.
“In our last regular season game against Columbus we went into the game intent on getting a lot of playing time for all of our seniors, especially some of the guys who haven’t seen much playing time,” Grundy Center head coach Rollie Ackerman said. “Columbus is playing very well right now and they showed it by really shooting the ball well in the first half.”
