Spartans eighth at Linda Bloom Invitational
MARSHALLTOWN — Difficult conditions and even harder opponents proved to be too much for the Grundy Center girls’ golf team to overcome last Thursday, as the Spartans placed eighth in the 14-team Linda Bloom Invitational in Marshalltown.
GC shot 402 on the same golf course where they won their record 12th state championship last June, finishing 57 shots behind meet champion Waukee. Spartan Coach Rick Schubach said the weather tested the mental makeup of his team. The meet began with 32-degree temperatures and strong winds before finishing in more favorable weather.
“I think it was a great lesson on how important the mental aspect of the game of golf is,…” he said. “We have to me really on top of our game physically, emotionally, and mentally to compete against 5A schools.”
