Spartans take runner-up spot in Oskaloosa

OSKALOOSA – The Grundy Center Spartan volleyball team was one match shy of a perfect week last week as they played their way to the runner-up spot at the Oskaloosa Invitational on Saturday. The Spartans fell in the final to North Polk 25-20, 21-25, 14-16, narrowly missing the win after failing to convert on a match point opportunity in the final set.
“We played pretty solid but are still working on consistency,” Grundy Center head coach Darwin Sents said. “It was a disappointing loss to North Polk, but they are a team we could obviously play with. It was a good learning experience.”
The Spartans swept all three opponents 2-0 in pool play, defeating Gilbert 21-12, 21-19, Ottumwa 22-20, 21-13, and Fairfield 21-13, 21-11.
