Spartans top Meskwaki, threaten unbeaten South Hardin
GRUNDY CENTER – The Spartans girls’ basketball team earned a 60-41 non-conference win over Meskwaki at home on Monday, and gave undefeated South Hardin a good run before falling 65-59 at Eldora on Tuesday.
The Spartans (3-4 overall, 1-3 NICL-West) will host Aplington-Parkersburg after the holiday break on Friday, Jan. 3, before resuming NICL-West play against Gladbrook-Reinbeck at home on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
Grundy Center 60, Meskwaki Settlement School 41
Grundy Center took a sizable lead in the first quarter that held for the duration as they captured a 60-41 win over Meskwaki Monday.
“The girls were able to get out to a great start in the first quarter with a 22 point lead and cruised to a good non-conference win at home,” Spartan head coach Matt Lindeman said.
Katie Lindeman led Grundy Center with 16 points and eight rebounds. Alyssa Mathews scored nine, and Madison Beenken and Stephanie Faust scored eight apiece. Jes Ackerson had a team high eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals, and Faust also pulled down eight boards.
