A special talent — Hard work pays off for BCLUW All-Stater
CONRAD — When current BCLUW senior Clark Stevens was trying to decide which instrument he was going to play as a fourth grader, the French horn captured his attention for an unusual reason: he had heard that it was more challenging and difficult to master than any of the others. Eight years later, he can count himself among the best horn players in the entire state of Iowa, and he became the first instrumentalist from BCLUW in the last 20 years to perform with the All-State Orchestra earlier this fall.
“When we were trying out instruments in fourth grade, I heard someone say that the French horn was a really hard instrument to play, and I just kind of thought that that intrigued me and made me want to take on the challenge,” he said.
