Supervisors hear first round of budget requests

As the turn of the year has come and gone, budget negotiations will now become one of the most common topics of discussion for the Grundy County Board of Supervisors over the next few months, and they heard from several county departments at Monday morning’s regular meeting.

County Engineer Gary Mauer, Treasurer Brenda Noteboom, Sheriff Rick Penning, County Attorney Erika Allen and Public Health Director Wendy Monaghan all spoke before the board and discussed some budgeting changes for the upcoming fiscal year. Mauer requested $1,117,000 in construction projects and listed several bridge repair projects among his top priorities, noting that bridge replacement funding had fallen from over $1.1 million to just under $500,000 after the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reversed an earlier decision to award the initial level of funding for three major bridge projects in Grundy County.

During Noteboom’s presentation, it was noted that automobile registration fees had fallen somewhat substantially in the last year, but other than that there were no major changes. She added that two members of the Sheriff’s department would be hitting the 10-year mark next year and receiving raises.
