Supervisors vote to withhold annex related payments

The Grundy County Board of Supervisors narrowly voted to withhold two payments totaling just over $1,400 related to the installation of a water meter at the new annex building in Grundy Center during Monday morning’s regular meeting. 
           
Supervisors Mark Schildroth, Chuck Bakker and Harlyn Riekena, who supported the motion to pay all other bills except for those previously mentioned, argued that AHTS Architects were responsible for a discrepancy in the size of a water meter, and that the company should be forced to “fight it out” with Mort’s Plumbing and Heating over the expense.
           
Dissenters Jim Ross and Barb Smith, however, countered that failing to pay the bill would simply pass the buck and put the city of Grundy Center in a precarious position.
           
“The city is innocent in all of this. Why stick the city?” Smith asked.
