The Grundy Center Sports Hall of Fame announced the election of two vintage football teams and a girls golf team to be inducted during Felix Grundy Days festivities this summer. The teams elected are the 1953 and 1958 football teams and the 1992 girls golf team.  Individuals elected will be announced shortly.

Both Spartan football teams are linked by a common decade, an undefeated record, and Hall of Fame players.  Both were highly ranked in their class before football started holding the state football championship playoffs.  But the 1992 girls golf team won the school’s first two state golf championship team with virtually the same team in 1991 and 1992, built the foundation for a dozen more, and produced the first girls Hall of Fame golfer.

All three teams and the yet-to-be-announced individual honorees, will be officially recognized during the Hall of Fame’s annual public ceremony at noon on Saturday, July 9 during Felix Grundy Festival activities.

A wall plaque commemorating each team will also be added at the high school “Wall of Fame” alongside individual inductees and teams previously elected.

The Grundy Center Sports Hall of Fame was organized in 2004 by local athletic boosters.  Its purpose is to recognize the contributions and accomplishments of athletes, coaches, administrators and contributors who have been involved in or supported the athletic programs of the community.  Nominations for the Hall of Fame are welcome from the public and can be made through members of the committee.
