Thursday's volleyball roundup: Dike-New Hartford stuffs Sumner-Fredericksburg

DIKE – Dike-New Hartford volleyball stymied Sumner-Fredericksburg with 12 team blocks as the 2A third-ranked Wolverines swept the 12th-ranked Cougars at Dike-New Hartford High School on Thursday night.

The Wolverines won 25-19, 25-20, 25-15 to improve to 3-1 overall in both teams' NICL East opener. Sumner-Fredericksburg fell to 2-1.

Taylor Hoehns accounted for two solo blocks and had a hand up for four more. Ellie Knock added two solo and two assisted blocks.

Payton Petersen led the D-NH attack with 16 kills, adding eight digs and three blocks along with 15-of-17 serving and an ace serve. Jadyn Petersen contributed eight kills to go with a team-leading 12 digs.

Madelyn Norton distributed 22 assists along with 10 digs; Lexie Fager had nine digs and was 9-of-11 serving with an ace serve. Malea Neuroth shined from the service line on D-NH's senior night, landing 15-of-16 serves with three aces.

In the second set, Sumner-Fredericksburg led 20-19 but D-NH scored six unanswered points, capped by a Neuroth ace serve, to take the 2-0 lead in the match, and the Cougars weren't able to stay close in the third set.

Rebels open West play with sweep / Gladbrook-Reinbeck defeated East Marshall, 25-10, 25-11, 25-14 at Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School on Thursday.

The 1A No. 11 Rebels improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the NICL West with the victory.

Saari Kuehl led the Rebels with 10 kills and Ava Wyatt and Megan Cooley contributed eight kills each. Kuehl added 11 digs and Emma McClintock and Alyssa Morgan chipped in eight digs each.

The Rebels dropped in 12 ace serves as a team, led by Kuehl and Morgan with three aces a piece; Cooley added two aces on perfect 14-of-14 serving.
