Trinkle named ICCA Coach of the Year

Cheerleading has been a lifelong passion for BCLUW coach Kelly Trinkle, and others have taken notice as she was recently informed that she will receive the Iowa Cheerleading Coach’s Association’s Coach of the Year Award at a banquet in April.
           
“I had never really thought about getting it or receiving it. I was super surprised, but very honored,” Trinkle said.
           
Last fall, the Comets won their third straight cheer dance title at the state championships in Des Moines, and Trinkle, now in her sixth year at the helm, has sought to carry on the tradition of excellence that her predecessor Jeannie Ehn established. Trinkle was a student and a cheerleader at Union-Whitten when it first began whole grade sharing with Beaman-Conrad-Liscomb, and Ehn became her coach after the merger. She quickly found a kindred spirit.
           
“We discovered together that we kind of had the same outlook, the same rules, the same expectations,” Trinkle said. “I learned a ton about those kind of things from her.”
