REINBECK – Nick Tscherter was 3-for-3 with three runs batted in as Gladbrook-Reinbeck defeated Colo-NESCO, 5-3, in a district opening-round game in Reinbeck on Saturday.

Tscherter also delivered the eventual go-ahead RBI in the fifth inning.

Colo-NESCO got one run back in the seventh off William Kiburis, who hit his max pitch count and gave way to Tscherter, who recorded the last two outs for the save.

The Rebels (20-13) won’t have Kiburis available to pitch for Tuesday’s district game in Traer against Don Bosco.

Luke Riffey and Austin Gehring each had RBIs as well for the Rebels.

The teams were tied 2-all after two innings. Kiburis picked up the win with six and one-third innings of work, allowing two earned runs on three hits with eight walks and five strikeouts.

Don Bosco (21-5) is rated fifth in Class 1A.
