Tuesday's girls basketball: Gladbrook-Reinbeck beats Tigers

REINBECK – An impressive first half carried the Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls to the season’s second win in Tuesday’s first game.

The opening 16 minutes was all the Rebels (2-7, 2-3), building leads of 12-2 after one quarter and 29-4 at halftime over South Hardin.

After the host Tigers started the scoring with two free throws, G-R tallied the next 17 points and held a commanding 25-point halftime cushion.

Belen Ellenberger scored 10 of her game-high 13 points in the first half with a pair of three-balls, while Brianna Strohbehn added two treys during a 12-0 run to close the half. Strohbehn and Mahayla Olson had seven points. Olson and Katie Clark each collected nine rebounds.

 

Wolverines turn over Knights

LA PORTE CITY – Morgan Weber scored 16 points with six rebounds in the Wolverines win at Union on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Katie Knock added nine points and a team-leading eight rebounds. The Wolverines led 31-12 at halftime.

Union turned the ball over 25 times, including 11 D-NH steals.

 

J-Hawk defense flusters Comets

CONRAD – The BCLUW girls turned the ball over 27 times in a 53-39 loss to Jesup on Tuesday.

BCLUW and Jesup were tied at 24-all at halftime, but Jesup pulled away with a 16-6 advantage in the third quarter. The Comets were able to stay close by virtue of a 32.8 percent shooting night for the J-Hawks, but Jesup got 27 more shot attempts than the Comets and were 7-of-23 from 3-point range.

Allison Engle led BCLUW with 16 points and six rebounds. Madison Ubben scored 12 points.
