Walters follows her dream with opening of "The Groom Room"

The idea for Conrad’s newest Main Street business, The Groom Room and Barkery, is one that has both been lingering in the back of owner/operator Dale Walters’s mind for years and at the same time, has come together extremely quickly. Though she had wanted to work with dogs and always considered it her passion, it wasn’t until about a month ago that everything finally clicked for Walters.

During her younger years, Walters worked at PetSmart and became known as the go-to person for friends’ dogs’ nails and other grooming needs. When her mother-in-law recently got two new puppies, she asked Walters, who had been working for Moler Sanitation, why she didn’t do dog grooming for a living.

“I said, well I’ve never been to school, and then I researched and found out you don’t need a certification or a license,” she said. “It gave me an opportunity, so I am going to take some classes… But I figured, let’s get this rolling and take care of puppies, and I thought it would be a perfect place right here on Main Street.”

Thus, The Groom Room and Barkery, located at 108 North Main Street (the former Record office), was born, and Walters officially opened her doors to customers last week.
