Winter returns with vengeance

After a warmer than average December, winter hit Grundy County with a vengeance this week, with the season’s first major snow storm and the area’s sharpest cold snap since last February. Monday’s snowstorm dropped between four and six inches of powder on the area and was followed by bitterly cold temperatures. Monday night’s official low in Grundy Center was 14 degrees below zero, and predictions for later in the week called for even colder readings. Pictured is the digging-out process from Monday’s snow.
