Wolverine girls fall in regional final

JEWELL — Dike-New Hartford could not hold an early lead Monday as it’s dream of a state girls’ basketball berth fell in a barrage of Manson-Northwest Webster jump shots, 45-37 at Southeast Webster High School Monday.
The Wolverines (20-3) scored just 18 points in the final three quarters after jumping ahead 19-12 in the first eight minutes.
“They got the momentum going and we had a hard time stopping the momentum,” Wolverine coach Bruce Dall said. “(Faith Troshynski) got really hot shooting the ball, they got the offensive rebounds, they were making free throws … a lot of things you have to do to stay in a game we weren’t doing.”
Playing without all-stater and UNI recruit Ellie Herzberg, Northwest Webster leaned heavily on a tight man-to-man defense. The look, which D-NH has rarely seen this year, took it out of its offensive rhythm. Of the Wolverines’ 15 field goals, five came in transition and two others came on putbacks.
