Wolverine girls win battle of top 10 rivals
DIKE — The Dike-New Hartford girls’ basketball team took sole possession of first place in the North Iowa Cedar League East Division Tuesday with a 52-47 victory over then-fifith ranked Hudson.
The Wolverines, ranked No. 8 in Class 2A, were outscored 21-8 in the third quarter to fall behind 45-38 before outscoring the Pirates 14-2 in the final quarter to secure the victory.
Coach Bruce Dall said the victory is the second of a pair of big wins for his team over the past couple of weeks, also noting how big the team’s victory over Union the week before was.
“We hadn’t beaten Union for awhile and that was big for our minds, this was good for our hearts,” he said. “Whoever won this had inside track for conference, and we had to protect our home court.”
