Wolverines blank Eagle Grove

EAGLE GROVE – The Dike-New Hartford Wolverines captured their fourth win in as many outings with their 49-0 shutout of the Eagle Grove Eagles Friday night.
“I thought our kids did a great job with their preparation for this game,” Dike-New Hartford head coach Don Betts said. “They were ready to go from the opening whistle and never let up.”
The Wolverine offense scored early and often, with six of their seven touchdowns coming in the first half. Levi Lynch finished off the first two D-NH scoring drives with short touchdown runs in the first quarter. Carson Parker and Gabe Eiklenborg energized the Wolverine crowd when they connected on a 47-yard pass for a touchdown to close out the scoring in the first period. Byron Fritch’s kicks for the extra points were good on all three accounts.
In the second quarter three more Wolverine scoring drives were capped off by short runs for D-NH TDs, two by Ben Cuvelier and a third by Lynch. Eiklenborg completed the scoring with a crowd pleasing 75-yard punt return for the final Wolverine touchdown in the third quarter. Fritch again capped off each TD with a PAT, making him a perfect 7-for-7 on the night.
“Gabe Eiklenborg is a tremendous playmaker for us,” Coach Betts said. “He is exciting to watch and a threat to score every time he touches the ball.”
