Wolverines stay perfect with 35-7 win over Hudson

DIKE – Dike-New Hartford dominated early in their home game against Hudson Friday night, scoring three first quarter touchdowns while holding the line on defense to take an 18-0 lead after the first 12 minutes of play. The Pirate offense also threatened to score early, but was turned back by the Wolverine defense on four different opportunities from the two-yard line.
“I think our goal line stand in the first quarter really set the tone for us tonight,” Dike-New Hartford head coach Don Betts said. “I think that lit a fire under us. Our defense has done a great job all year. They may bend a little but they usually don’t break. They really swarm to the ball. I thought Brody Goos, Blaine Becker, Nick Durnin and Tyler Weise really stood out tonight.”
The Wolverine offense did their part as well. The O-line cleared the way for top running back Trent Johnson, who ran for all three of Dike-New Hartford’s first half touchdowns. Johnson followed a first period one-yard touchdown run with two more in the second quarter, one for 87 yards and another for five.
After the halftime break Johnson broke away again, this time for third quarter 70-yard scoring run.
