Wolverines take own tourney title

DIKE – The Dike-New Hartford Wolverine volleyball team rolled through their own tournament on Saturday, defeating all five of their opponents to earn the championship crown.
 D-NH stormed past their first four competitors in straight sets.
The Wolverines started the day with a 25-18, 25-17 win over Cedar Falls. Briana Weber contributed 10 kills and 14 digs to the Wolverine effort, and Rachel Koop provided 24 assists.
Next D-NH upended Iowa City High 21-12, 25-10. Weber had 10 kills, Koop 21 assists, and Lizzy Blough seven digs in the Wolverine win.
D-NH followed that effort with a 25-15, 25-8 win over Sumner-Fredericksburg. Weber recorded 11 kills, Koop 22 assists, Blough 10 digs, and Ashley Dumler and Sadie Eden had three blocks each.     
The Wolverines continued their path toward the championship defeating Gilbert 25-14, 25-21, setting up a championship matchup between Class 1A No. 2 Janesville and Class 2A No. 1 D-NH in the final. The Wolverines used a balanced offensive attack to tame the Tigers, Blough leading the way with nine kills, Weber with eight, and Dumler with seven. Koop provided 29 assists, and Sam Meyer and Lexi Schmitz had two blocks each.
