Grundy Center head coach Travis Zajac was named 2020 Class A Coach of the Year by the Iowa Football Coaches Association on Thursday.

Zajac, in his second year with the Spartans, helped guide the team to an 11-1 finish, earning Class A state runner-up honors for the second-consecutive season. Zajac's record with the Spartans is now 22-3; his overall record is 40-41, which includes six seasons at Dubuque Wahlert.

"Should definitely be a staff award as our guys are the real deal!" Zajac said on Twitter. "We had a great group of players, supportive families, and all of Grundy Center behind us."

Zajac is the first coach of an area team to receive the award since 2015, when Gladbrook-Reinbeck coach John Olson received the Class A award.
