German students return to Grundy Center

GRUNDY CENTER — For the second straight year, Grundy Center is playing host to a group of students from the Krummhorn region of Germany.
High School language arts teacher Betsy Kuecker, who is helping to oversee this year’s visit, said she has been impressed with the students in her early interactions with them.
“A lot of them speak English better than I expected them to,” she said. “The kids are intermixing right out of the gate.”
Kuecker said while many of the activities that were part of last year’s visit are still going to happen, students are also going to spend more time in classes at the high school so that they can see the American form of education. Even with the students there, she said most teachers are keeping things as normal as possible.
