Wolverines wrap up undefeated regular season
DIKE – The longstanding rivalry lived up to its billing in the first half when Dike-New Hartford and Aplington-Parkersburg met in Wolverine country Friday night. The two teams traded score for score and went to the halftime break with slight 24-16 advantage for the home team, but the tide would turn in the second half as the Wolverines widened the gap and came away with convincing 40-16 win over the Falcons.
Dike-New Hartford was first to score in the first quarter on an 8-yard run by quarterback Carson Parker. Aplington-Parkersburg followed suit when Falcon quarterback Corbin Brungard went 23 yards for the score to tie the game at 7-7. The Wolverines then went up 14-7 on a Levi Lynch 15-yard touchdown run.
In the second quarter the Dike-New Hartford defense forced Aplington-Parkersburg to settle for a Nick Waller 27-yard field goal on their next score, then spread the lead to 21-10 on a Lynch one-yard touchdown run. Brady Frey would take the ball a final yard for the next Falcon score to close the gap to 21-16. Then it was the Wolverines’ turn to settle for field goal attempt, which Byron Fritch made good on just before the half, and the teams went to the break with Dike-New Hartford up 24-16.
