EAGLE GROVE –  The 2013 cross country season came to an end for the Gladbrook-Reinbeck and Grundy Center runners last Thursday night at the Class 1A state qualifying meet at the Eagle Grove Country Club. Amidst stiff competition, an unfamiliar course with hilly terrain, and bitterly cold weather, local runners faced perhaps their toughest race all season.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s lone senior member of the team, Tyler Bovy, led all local runners with a 14th place finish, missing the chance to run at the state meet by just four places. Vasya Strohbehn and Cole Goos also ran for the Rebel boys’ team.
“Obviously, we were disappointed not to get anyone to the state meet,” Gladbrook-Reinbeck coach Andy McQuillen said. “Tyler ran a heck of a race, but so did several others. He had a solid senior season, which is all I can ask for from him.”
Nicole Adair led the Rebel girls with her 25th place individual finish. Meg Edler, Hannah Martin, Kelsey Schwartz, and Amber Berendes also competed for the Rebel girls.
