GRUNDY CENTER -- Each year around the holidays, local food banks receive an influx of donations. The donations are needed at the time due to special holiday projects. But there is also a need at other times of year.
Last week the Grundy County Food Pantry, located at the Operation Threshold office in Grundy Center, received a nearly $2,000 donation from Family Foods in commemoration of its 49th anniversary, plus an additional $75 donation from local Family Foods employees. The donation comes at a time of need according to local Operation Threshold Supervisor Chris Tobias, who said shelves at the food bank were nearly empty earlier in the week.
“It has been very challenging,” she said. “We were getting ready to send out an e-mail to churches about getting some extra help there. Some of the churches are so good about bringing stuff in.”
